A Newfoundland Screech-in ceremony is a common ceremony performed on non-Newfoundlanders (known to Newfoundlanders as a "come from away" or "mainlander") involving a shot of Newfoundland screech rum, a short recitation and kissing a cod fish all while wearing a sou’wester. Afterwards you would be awarded an official certificate and deemed a “true Newfoundlander”
